NYC Young Adult Mission Trip

By: Rachel Korycka (The Cathedral Church of the Intercessor)

From July 26th through 31st , along with several other CEC youth groups, the Grounded and Settled youth group participated in a week-long Mission trip in New York City. We stayed at a housing facility in Brooklyn, provided to us by Teen Challenge, and walked two blocks to their cafeteria for most of our meals, they also had a sanctuary for our worship services.

Sidewalk Sunday School In East Harlem

Some of the outreaches we participated in were: a three-day Sidewalk Sunday School program (which involved setting up, planning, teaching, and doing crafts with as many as 30 children), painting and cleaning projects at two churches, a prayer walk through the Ground Zero sight, sorting and folding items at a clothing bank, and delivering meals to elderly with Meals On Heels.

Within our group of CEC youth, there also took place some ministry and prayer time that drew us all closer and showed us what God can truly accomplish through ourselves and others.
One of the best parts of the trip for me was seeing a transformation in some of the CEC youth, even people I didn’t personally know, and seeing God work through attitude changes, and hearing him speak through other teens while we were praying.

All in all, this mission trip was an awesome experience, and I felt extremely rewarded afterward, reflecting on the thankfulness of people we helped, and knowing that every single person in our group was being a servant and steward for Jesus.
