Men’s Retreat 2010
Eighty-five men from Intercessor, and a few churches from the Northeast Diocese, descended upon Mount Saint Alphonsus Retreat House in Esopus, NY last weekend.
The men were blessed by teachings from the Patriarch, Intercessor’s rector Archbishop Craig W. Bates, for most of the weekend with a special teaching by Fr. Terry Gensemer of CEC for Life on Friday night. Bp. Craig focused his teachings on 5 major points: Reject Passivity, Accept Responsibility, Lead with Courage, Stay With It, and Seek an Eternal Reward. This is the heart of the Men’s Ministry at Church of the Intercessor.
Besides phenomenal teachings, the men had the opportunity to fellowship over golf, hiking, or mountain biking on Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening there was a powerful time of ministry as well as some late night fellowship around a bonfire next to the Hudson River.
On Sunday, Bp. Craig closed the weekend with a Eucharistic Service and sent the men home refreshed and ready to serve God!
Thanks again to all those men who made this weekend possible!

Seeking the Lord in His Word
Many people wonder about God, but are not sure how and where to find Him, yet God is ready to speak to us, waiting for us to give an ear or turn our head towards Him.
One place where we can find Him, and where He wills to reveal Himself to us is in His Word, the Holy Scriptures. God’s Word is living and active and God will reveal Himself to us as we seek Him out, for He promised to do so!
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
While we await the time of our Lord’s return in glory, we do not need to wait to speak with Him and hear Him speak to us. We can draw closer to Him and find His words for our lives each and every day. His words are life to us, so come and seek the Lord where He wills to be found. One place He wills to be found is in His Word, and His Word will also lead us to find Him in every day life, in the midst of the circumstances we find ourselves in and the people we meet, especially the least, the lost, and the lonely. See, so you don’t need to wait! And when you find Him in the people you meet, love and serve Him, feed Him and cloth Him, and visit Him when He is sick or in prison.
