Children’s Ministry
There are a number of different Children and Youth ministries at the Cathedral Church of the Intercessor. Below is a list of different ministries that children and youth can participate in and you might want to get involved involved with.
Nursery
During the 9am and 11am services on Sunday mornings, nursery care is provided for babies 0-24 months. There are a group of loving, responsible people willing and ready to provide the best care for your child as you attend the service. If you would like to volunteer for this wonderful ministry, please contact Barbara or Ken Heaphy via email at nursery@intercessorchurch.net.
Toddler Sunday School
During the 9am and 11am services, Toddlers (2-4 years) learn different Bible stories throughout the year as teachers use games, crafts, and lessons. This is not just babysitting as the children do learn these different lessons. If you are interested in teaching or have questions, please contact Alan Melanson via email at toddlers@intercessorchurch.net.
Sunday School
Here at Intercessor, we value the next generation as not only the church leaders of the future, but active participants in the church today. Our Sunday School program reflects this as they not only listen to biblical teachings, but also actively participate in the lessons through skits, puppets, and story-telling. We have three classes: Pre-K4 through 2nd Grades, 3rd through 6th Grades, and a 7th & 8th Grades class (only at the 11am).
The Sunday School program begins at the beginnings of the announcements and concludes just prior to the Eucharist at both the 9am and 11am services. If you have any questions or would like to participate in this great ministry, please contact Tom Tittmann at sundayschool@intercessorchurch.net.
Confirmation
Our confirmation classes teaches young adults the beliefs of the church and allows them to ask questions about the faith in a non-threatening environment. Our classes run on Sundays at the 9am service from October through Holy Week on the church calendar. Confirmation class is open to students beginning in 8th grade. For adults wishing to be confirmed, please see our Discipleship Classes (click here) that are offered throughout the year.
GEMS
GEMS is a worldwide organization whose vision is to see girls around the world actively and enthusiastically expressing love for God and others— girls equipped, motivated, and passionately engaged in living out their faith. The curriculum lessons provided are all biblical-based and encourage Christian service to church and community.
Here at the Intercessor, the GEMS aim is “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8. It is a relationship-based and relationship-building club program created especially to bring our young girls together for fellowship & fun! The girls develop life skills by earning new badges, doing challenging crafts, going on exciting field trips, praying for one another and participating in a monthly Bible Challenge. Some of our recent events that earned badges have included baking, biking, boxes of love deliveries, crafts, floral arrangements, ice skating, rock climbing, and pet training.
We have two groups divided by age: The Awareness Girls consist of girls in 1st grade through 3rd; and the Discovery Girls are grades 4th through 6th. We meet on most Friday afternoons, from 4:30- 6pm in Parish Hall with the first Friday each month starting with pizza dinner! We generally follow the school calendar and do not have GEMS on school holidays. There are dues collected at the start and half way point of the year which cover the cover the cost of the 5-7 events or field trips, pizza, the annual Mother-daughter tea and camping weekend.
All of our counselors are excited to build affirming and encouraging relationships with your daughters. This year in the Awareness Group we have Lisa Ammendola and Mary Kroner; In the Discovery Group we have Melanie Ciccarello, Maria Maloney and Theresa Schmid.
If you wish to enroll your daughter, please email Susan by clicking here or speak to one of the counselors listed above.
