We aren’t perfect and face personal and shared challenges. Christmas brings timeless hope. Despite changing circumstances, its message remains constant: the birth of Jesus, God’s Son, who offers love, hope, and joy. This enduring message is worth celebrating in a world often filled with bad news and devastation.

The Real Meaning of Christmas

Immanuel, which means “God with us” (Matthew chapter 1: verse 23, NIV Bible), is another name for Jesus.

His birth and life are good news for us because they mean we are never alone. It doesn’t matter how hard or hopeless our situation may appear to be; God is there for us. We don’t have to journey through our challenges and struggles alone. He understands them. He walks them alongside us.

Celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ is more than a Christian holiday or a Christian festival.

It is an opportunity to pause and give thanks for the love, hope, and joy found in Jesus – our Saviour and friend. As we exchange gifts with loved ones, it is out of remembrance of the gift God gave us in Jesus. The gift is that we are loved, are never alone, and can have hope for the future.

12 Days of Christmas

This is the twelve days of Christmas. Twelve days after Christmas (Dec 25) is Epiphany (Jan 6). The twelve days of Christmas are the time between Christmas Day (the first day of Christmas) and Epiphany (the 12th day of Christmas). They mark the time between the birth of Jesus Christ and the coming of the three wise men.
The Sunday nearest to Jan 6 can be celebrated as Epiphany Sunday or the first Sunday after Epiphany (The Baptism of the Lord). Epiphany Sundays are then counted until the Sunday before Ash Wednesday. The reading labeled the Last Week of Epiphany is always last.
